The new generation can be taught well on how to rightly pronounce the words in English, when saying a word from other language by translating as well as not translating it into English. This error needs to be removed but I do not think if it is really possible to do that after so long time when people are about to carry such pronunciation in their DNA. I feel it is an error that came during the process of moving from a language to the other, be it Bengali to English, Kannada to English, Tamil to English or any other language. Not only in Bengal, even here in Kumaoun (Uttarakhand) and U.P., you can find many old professors and people who pronounce 'Very Well' as 'Bhery Bhell', while they do not show such errors in speaking their mother tongue. However, the new generation is moving towards a cleaner pronunciation of words slowly and steadily.

In olden times, more people had the tendency to speak in this way. You may notice that the people who are Bengali or from South, but have lived in other states or foreign since their birth do not have such pronunciation either in speaking or writing. It is just about the primary languages that are spoken in a region which leave its marks in their English talking and pronunciations. In Hindi (or better say, pure Hindi), words like Vandhana, Nayanthara, Prabu Dheva, Rajni Kanth are called completely impure and incorrect.īut, as I understood there are many more languages spoken in different parts on India and some states do not even understand a single word of Hindi, my view changed about them. I used to judge it from a 'Hindi' point of view. Later, they result into a V-as-B talkers.Īs mentioned by Mr.Gypsy, even I used to wonder why these people use an extra 'h' everywhere it is not required to be. As our Bengali friends grow up in a family where Bengali is spoken all the day, greater chances are there that the children will start speaking the secondary language (English here) the way they are habitual of talking Bengali. I feel it is about their primary language and its fluency that highly influence their way and tact of speaking any secondary language. My response was going to be the same as Mr.Gypsy's, but the only difference is that, I was not going to come up as a questioner.
